Institut Technique de l’Agriculture Biologique (ITAB)
ITAB (Technical Institute of Organic Farming) is a link between farmers and research in order to develop organic farming in France.
ITAB:
- Coordinate research and technical actions carried out in the field of organic farming
- Link up actors of the organic farming network
- Assess research programmes and experiments
- Inform farmers and advisers about research results and technical knowledge
ITAB relies on professional network of organic farming actors involved in the organic field (farmers’ associations, technical institutes, public and private research organizations, chambers of agriculture, communication organizations, agricultural secondary education and universities, farmers trade unions and cooperatives, European partners, …). ITAB is organised in committees, for each production (animal breeding, arable crops, winegrowing, fruits and vegetables) and on cross-cutting issues (agronomy, product quality, seeds and seedlings, plant health).

ITAB elaborates and coordinates some multidisciplinary research programmes, considered as first priorities by organic farmers:
- Plant breeding techniques: selection, varieties assessment, seed production and protection
- Copper use reduction - Improvement of organic flour and bread
- Global analysis methods of organic product’s quality
- Impact of organic farming on environment
- Benefits of crops rotations.
